Abstract
In this article we present the results of a master’s degree study on the incorporation of environmental
education into the curriculum of the Civil Engineering degree at the Higher
School of Engineering and Architecture, Zacatenco, of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional.
The research is of qualitative type, the methodological framework is articulated around the theory of social representations addressed from the procedural approach. The purpose was to analyze the teacher social representation of environmental problems, in order to identify elements that could generate a proposal for environmental education. The results reveal that there is a social representation on teachers about environmental problems and it mediates their academic activity peripherally in the formation processes of Civil Engineers. However, it is necessary to give the environmental problem a central place that could gather the different characteristics that shape the student profile as a graduate.
