Abstract

The systematic review addresses the learning of the English language in virtual mode for Higher Education students in Mexico, analyzing various aspects of this educational process. A comprehensive search was carried out in renowned academic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ProQuest and Google Scholar, along with exploration of academic repositories and digital libraries. The inclusion criteria focused on the Mexican context of higher education and the virtual English learning modality, and studies published in the last 5 years were considered. The results of the review reveal a diversity of approaches and methodologies in virtual English teaching, including asynchronous and synchronous teaching, use of visual resources, such as videos and interactive activities, and the incorporation of online forums to encourage collaboration. Active participation and retention of students in virtual courses were found to be key challenges, with online social interaction playing a crucial role in retention. Assessment methods vary and include online exams, written assignments and presentations, with a mix of traditional and formative assessment.
