Analysis of the Social relevance through the master’s degree in management for sustainable development from the Autonomous University of Guerrero

Abstract

Higher education institutions, through their graduate programs, seek to direct their efforts towards social relevance and thus contribute to the development of communities. The objective of this research was to analyze the scope of the degree´s projects carried out by graduates of the master’s program in Management for Sustainable Development. Under the principles of qualitative research, based on an exploratory study. The ATLAS.ti software was used to analyze 50 research projects from 2015 to 2022. Using a framing matrix, the variables were categorized into 1) Social leadership role of higher education and 2) Linkage of the curriculum through the geographical location of the projects, environmental focus, management, line of generation and application of knowledge, Sustainable Development Goals and central theme. The results reveal: a greater participation of women, the promotion of SDGs 5, 11 and 15, the location of the projects in 5 regions of Guerrero and their social focus. This leads to the strengthening of the postgraduate program and its consolidation through the recognition of its contributions to the resolution of social problems through the co-production of knowledge and the promotion of the organizational capacities of local stakeholders.
