The scientific field in Mexico. An approach with Bourdieu’s focus

Abstract

A characterization of the scientific field in Mexico is offered by giving an account of the subfields that constitute it and their respective relations, as well as the objective conditions with a probability of entering the scientific field. Bourdieu’s theory of fields is recovered with statistical treatment of various databases obtained about academic positions. This suggests that the gateway to the scientific field has become narrower in the last ten years and only opens in certain conditions, mainly because of the unequal distribution of economic capital in institutions.
