World universities rankings current perspectives

Abstract

This article reviews the most relevant university current rankings with major influence on the universities´ institutional field, a classification that has been object of critiques though it has gained legitimacy in the institutional university context, since they announce worldwide the universities quality. Its influence on higher education institutions actors allows knowing both the opportunities and the disadvantages that these comparatives offer for the management, generation of resources and international visibility of the universities.
