Abstract

This paper proposes the formulation, design and validation of a tool for curricular development in engineering courses. Following a literature review of curricular processes and technological monitoring, key drivers were identified: dimensions, assumptions, processes, and variables. The model was then validated by analyzing trends within the operations and logistics areas of industrial engineering programs in Colombia, the results of which provided feedback for the model. The study concluded that academic institutions need to adopt flexible, forward-looking and dynamic mechanisms for curriculum design, in order to incorporate state-of-the-art developments in the field, while constructing the most updated and relevant professional profiles.
