Student Dropout in Technical-Professional Higher Education: Exploring factors that influence freshmen students

Abstract
This article discusses the influence of socio-demographic, academic and job characteristics
in the inequality of opportunities. It is a case study on conditions and academic trajectories
of the students enrolled in the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana between 1990 and
2005; and for a group of graduates, is considered the relationship between academic factors
and job conditions. The research uses the analytical model of Bartolucci, who inspired
on Schütz, proposes that students make decisions guided by the assessment they make,
based on their conditions, from their particular biographical and historical situation, and
as a part of a specific social group.
